Dusky & Lovely
Campaign, Photography, Typography
A campaign addressing the issue of beauty standards while also celebrating women of color. “Fair & Lovely” is a popular skin whitening cream in India that is marketed towards women with dusky skin, a term often used in the negative sense. With this project, I wanted to reverse the meaning of the word ‘dusky’ into a more positive one along with highlighting women of color.
Opening night of thesis exhibition.
Interviewed ten different women, ranging in different ages and ethnicities, and asked them their thoughts on beauty standards and skin whitening treatments. Used typography to show hierarchy and pulled quotes to highlight main points.
Photographed the women against backgrounds similar to their skin tone to highlight them.
Interviews were recorded on posters and booklets in different shades of brown.
